Admission & Enrollment

Application
Families applying for enrollment must return the completed application form, along with a non-refundable application fee. The application fee is $25 for student parents, $35 for all others, and covers the cost of maintaining the waiting lists and other related administrative costs.

Placement

  • Placement offers are made based on date of application and space availability. Separate lists are kept for each age group at the Center.
  • Priority for admission is given in the following order:
1. Siblings of current Center students at that site (i.e.; North Campus children families have priority at North Campus, South Campus children families have priority at South Campus)
2. Children of Staff of University at Buffalo Child Care Center
3. Children of University at Buffalo (UB) students, staff and faculty
4. Children of other New York State Employees
5. Children of Community Residents. Non-UB children are accepted on a space-available basis, 12 months at a time. A non-UB child will be required to forfeit his or her spot at the end of a semester in the event that a UB-affiliated family needs care.
  • Once you have been offered placement at the Center, you have 2 business days to accept or decline the spot.
1. If you choose to decline an offered placement, your name is removed from the waiting list for that site. Status on the other site list will not be affected by such a decline.
2. If you choose to accept an offered placement, you can no longer retain your position on the waiting list of the second site. An appointment will be set up with the Administrative Assistant to start the enrollment process
  • Written notification will be sent once a year requesting whether you are interested in remaining on the waiting list. A written response from you is required if you wish to remain on the waiting list. Your child will be moved up (with priority) to the next age group waiting list when it is appropriate.

Transfer Between Sites
In order to maintain continuity of care, the Center believes that transfer between sites is usually not advisable. However, family circumstances sometimes warrant transfer and families may request that they be placed on the waiting list for placement at the Center’s other sites.

Families requesting transfer will be placed on the waiting list for the requested site according to their priority as listed in the Application section.

Families with more than one child at the Center may decline transfer of one child without losing their place on the waiting list at the other site. Families wishing to transfer between sites do not have to pay an application fee.

Enrollment

  • Parents are required to visit the Center with their child before entering the program. Parents are also encouraged to stay for a portion of the child’s first day, if possible. Completion of a number of forms is required by the Friday prior to the child’s first day of attendance.
  • Enrollment contracts, including verification of UB affiliation and income, are due upon enrollment and annually thereafter upon registration for the Fall Semester. Your child will not be enrolled for the semester unless we have all the necessary paperwork.

Contract Periods, Changes and Minimum Usage

  • Contract periods are oriented around the academic calendar (semester). Each semester parents request the schedule of care needed for that semester (i.e.; full or part time; number of days of the week, etc.). After the third week of the contract period, no further schedule changes are accepted.
  • The Center requires a minimum usage of two full days or five half days per week. A half-day is considered five hours and fifteen minutes.
  • All children enrolled in the Center are expected to attend continuously through the year. If a child is withdrawn from the Center for any reason, placement upon return cannot be guaranteed unless minimum usage is maintained throughout the leave.
